Charcoal Drawings

On Paper

I draw with charcoal in a unique way.  I work with completely wet, heavy print paper, laid  flat on a horizontal surface.  I use a very soft charcoal to do my line work.  Then, I use a brush, sponge, hand or fingers to pull through the line creating shades of gray and interesting textures.  I literally paint with the charcoal.   Work quickly and must complete the drawing before the paper dries forcing me not to overwork the image thus hopefully capturing the essence of my subject.  I finish using a UV spray fixative, so no smuggling occurs.  The drawings require mounting and framing.

Mounted on Black Canvas

These original sprayed drawings are mounted onto a black stretched canvas.  I use an acrylic matte gel under and over the drawing to permanently adhere it to the canvas surface.  Presenting the art this way does not require framing.
